LPF - Practical abilities for life
An important part of the special education at our school is to teach people abilities to manage their life more easily – “Lebenspraktische Fähigkeiten – LPF” = practical abilities for life.

What are these abilities?

All motor skills, which we need every day, to get independent when facing the challenges of our daily life, are meant by that.

Why is teaching LPF so important?

To be able to see is important to educate the motor actions, because most of these acts are only educable by imitation.

To be blind or to be nearly blind can have bad consequences in normal life. Easy actions, like putting drinks into cups or glasses, could become very difficult. The aim is to master techniques, which are special for blind and visually impaired people. The special thing about it is to get control of the technique. Where sighted people can use their eyes, blind people have to use their sense of touch or their acoustic sense.

You’re now asking....

how can blind and nearly blind people know, that the cup is full, how to write in lessons in Print or how much money you have got with you?

And this is where LPF starts...

The goal is nearly full independance in everyday life.

What can you learn in LPF?

  • to cut meat
  • to work with the oven
  • to learn to sign with one’s own signature
  • ... and much more

What does the teaching in orientation and mobility in LPF look like?

Every student will be taught one-on-one. This way you can educate the individual abilities of the people more effectively. The subject matter of the teaching is chosen in accordance with how much someone is visually impaired (blind, nearly blind or visually impaired), which requirements exist and the wishes of the individual.
